Vela is living realization of a life-long dream of co-owners Lillian Dent and her daughter Chef Leisa Dent. Leisa Dent was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Long Island 30 years ago. She is the third child of Toby and Lillian Dent.

Toby and Lillian had relocated to Long Island, New York from Evans, Georgia, a small close-knit southern community. They had met at the Mount Olive Baptist Church and became grade school sweethearts.

Anthony Jefrey

PASTRY CHEF

Chef Anthony Jefrey grew up in an Austrian family, where he learned at an early age that quality food was an essential ingredient to good living. As a child, he watched his relatives prepare culinary masterpieces from scratch.

Biscuit Petro

PASTRY CHEF

After graduating from college, Biscuit left for France working under some of France's finest chefs, including Lyon's Bernard Constantin and Jean Brouilly.  Five years later, Biscuit returned to work in Vela.

Rosie Hunley

CHEF DE CUISINE

Rosie Hunley, is a prime example of a professional woman who decided to pursue her passion and completely change her career direction.  After receiving an accounting degree from Saint Mary's College in South Bend, Indiana, Rosie  started to work in Vela.

Joss Clington

EXECUTIVE CHEF

Born and raised in New England, Joss realized his passion for cooking while feeding his college roommates. This passion led to a transfer to the U/MASS Amherst Hotel, Restaurant, Travel Administration program and his first job in a restaurant.
